On April Fools Day 2013 YouTube released a video that basically said that their entire website has just been a huge talent contest since day one and that they would be shutting down YouTube, and in twenty-something years they would upload the winning video and nothing else. To many this would just be an obvious joke, but the thing is I saw it on March 31st, the day before April Fools when my guard was down. Since I was and still am pretty obsessed with YouTube, my reaction was... less than pleased.
Here's the video he showed me. In retrospect, it's sort of obvious that it was a joke, but I was much more gullible in 2013.
